THE iLX DIFFERENCE

We care whether
it's done right.

A lot of people can install a lighting system. Very few are still showing up down the road.

The people you work with
are the people who
do the work.

Not the people who work for them. The work speaks for itself.

Intentionality

We ask the questions nobody else thought to ask.

Before we spec a single fixture, we find out who actually runs the space — the drama teacher, the hotel ops manager, the volunteer board op who's there every Sunday. That conversation changes everything. It's why our systems still work long after everyone else's have been worked around.

"Actually talk to the drama teacher. They're the ones who have to use it every day. Why are you talking to everyone else?"
Integrity

We don't leave messes behind.

Half our work is cleaning up what someone else left behind — a spec that looked great on paper, an install that passed punch list but never really worked, a system nobody trained anyone to use. When we put our name on something, it's done to a standard we'd stake our reputation on. Not close enough. Done.

"Every week we are cleaning up the mess of some other half-working design and making it work as a functional lighting system."
Passion

We care whether it's done right.

You spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a lighting system. It shouldn't run in its simplest possible form, and it shouldn't be something your staff works around. It should be remarkable. We're against mediocre work — not as a pitch, but as a principle. It's why people find us.

"Do it right or don't do it at all. If the budget doesn't support doing it right, we'll tell you — and help you figure out what to do instead."

What you can expect.

Ask first. Then design.

Every question worth asking gets asked before a single decision is made — so the system matches how the space actually gets used, not just how it was drawn.

The obvious answer isn't always right.

The best solution isn't always the expected one. We bring fresh thinking to problems that have stalled or been repeated across projects.

We see what others miss.

In a spec, in a system, in a room. That's what years of field experience actually buys — knowing where the gaps are before they become problems.

We meet you where you are.

Whether you're deep in the details or just trying to understand what you're looking at — we adapt to you, not the other way around.

No handoffs. No disappearing.

The people you hire stay involved from first conversation to final commissioning. You won't be passed to someone who wasn't in the room.

Every recommendation has a reason.

We don't spec what's easy or familiar — we spec what's right for your space, your operation, and the people running it.

How it usually goes vs.
how it goes with us.

The Typical Format

The architect designs for the building. Nobody designs for the person running it.

  • Systems specced for the walk-through, not for down the road
  • Equipment installed to pass inspection, not to support daily operation
  • No training for whoever actually has to run the system
  • A flashy presentation for photos and the final walk-through — but someone put the board op behind a wall
  • After signoff, you're on your own

With iLX

We close the gap between what was designed and what you actually need.

  • Systems designed around how the space operates, not just how it was drawn
  • Installation verified against design intent, not just the drawings
  • Drawings & designs made by lighting people who work alongside GCs and architects
  • Documentation that's actually usable, with someone available after close
  • Early involvement, through commissioning and beyond

We've seen it
from every angle.

What we never
compromise on.

We'll tell you the truth

Even when it's not what you want to hear.

We finish what we start

We don't hand off and disappear. We're there until it works.

We'll still be there

Long after the work is done.
